Flexible Laminate Costing Step by Step | Micron to GSM to ₹ per kg (Worked Example)
How do you cost a flexible laminate correctly? In this 5-minute video we take a common snack pouch structure - PET 12 / MET-PET 12 / PE 50 - and cost it step by step: convert micron to GSM, add ink and adhesive, work out material cost per m², build the selling price per kg with wastage, conversion and margin, and finally the cost per 1,000 pouches. You will also see why a thinner PE raises ₹ per kg but lowers what the buyer pays, and the most common laminate costing mistakes.

KEY FORMULAS
GSM = micron × density (g/cm³)
₹ per m² = GSM ÷ 1000 × ₹ per kg (for each layer)
Material ₹ per kg = total ₹ per m² ÷ (total GSM ÷ 1000)
Selling price = (material + wastage + conversion) + margin
Cost per 1,000 pouches = pouch weight (g) × ₹ per kg
WORKED EXAMPLE (illustrative Indian rates)
PET 12 µ ₹130/kg · MET-PET 12 µ ₹160/kg · LDPE 50 µ ₹125/kg · Ink 3.0 GSM ₹300/kg · Adhesive 2 × 2.5 GSM ₹250/kg
Total 87.6 GSM · material ₹12.77/m² = ₹146/kg · + 8% wastage + ₹25 conversion + 12% margin = ₹204/kg
150 × 200 mm 3-side seal pouch: 5.26 g · 190 pouches per kg · ₹1,074 per 1,000 pouches (laminate only)
