Rotogravure Printing Cylinder Cost Calculator

Describe a set of rotogravure printing cylinders and read the cost straight back — engraving technology, cylinder type and engraved area resolved into a total set cost, a cost per cylinder, and cost per colour, per pouch and per kilogram of laminate.

What it does

A rotogravure cylinder is priced by its engraved area, not by a flat per-cylinder rate — circumference and face width move the number as much as the technology and cylinder type do, and none of that is visible in a single quoted figure.

The Rotogravure Printing Cylinder Cost Calculator works that arithmetic for you. Pick a cost model, describe the cylinders in the set and the job they belong to, and it resolves the engraved area and the rate for each cylinder's technology and type into a total set cost, a cost per cylinder, and a cost per colour, per pouch and per kilogram of laminate.

How it works

  1. Open the module and choose New estimate.
  2. Pick a cost model from the list available to you.
  3. For each cylinder line, choose the engraving technology and cylinder type, and enter the circumference, face width and cylinder count. Add more lines as needed.
  4. Enter the job's colours, print quantity in pouches, and expected laminate weight in kg.
  5. Read the live cost breakdown as you adjust the job — there is nothing to submit.

What a cost model holds

A model sets one rate basis for the whole model — per square centimetre, per 1,000 square millimetres, or per square inch — and converts each cylinder's engraved area (circumference × face width) into that unit automatically. Against that basis:

Suppliers and admins author models from Manage cost models; a model is Public (usable by everyone) or Private. A Private model can still be shared with named customers by their Google sign-in email — they can estimate against it but never see the rate tables or edit the model.

What the breakdown shows

A cylinder estimate is a working estimate, not a quotation. It is what the set works out to against one cost model's rate tables on the day — confirm the final price with the cylinder maker before you commit to it.

Comparing options

Below the estimate, Compare prices the same cylinders two ways — new against re-engraving, and EME against laser — and shows how much the cheaper option saves, so the trade-off between re-engraving an existing cylinder and cutting a new one is a number, not a guess.

Saved estimates stay current

Save an estimate under a name of your choosing and it appears under Saved estimates on the module home. Reopening one reprices it against the cost model's current rates, so it always reflects today's figures rather than the day it was saved. Only you can see your own saved estimates.

From estimate to RFQ

A saved cylinder estimate can be sent to several cylinder makers at once. In the RFQ module, start a new RFQ, choose Cylinders, and add the saved estimate as an item — its specification is copied across, never your own costing. Each supplier quotes a price per cylinder, so the responses line up for comparison the same way a laminate or box RFQ does.

FAQ

Questions about this module

What kind of cylinder jobs does it cost?

New cylinders, re-engraving of an existing cylinder, and DCRC re-chroming — for both EME and laser engraving technology. You describe each cylinder in the set by its circumference, face width and technology/type, and it resolves to a total set cost and a cost per cylinder.

What is in a cylinder cost model?

One rate basis for the whole model — per square centimetre, per 1,000 square millimetres, or per square inch — and a rate for each combination of engraving technology (EME or Laser) and cylinder type (New, Re-engraving or DCRC), each with an optional per-cylinder minimum charge. Models can also carry width and circumference factor bands, which multiply a cylinder's rate when its size falls in a band.

How do I get access?

It is an annual seat, priced the same way as the Flexible Laminate Cost Calculator — from ₹999/year for early subscribers, in its own seat pool. Subscribe on the web at app.globalpackagingnetwork.com; the Android app does not sell it directly, so pay from a browser and the app picks up access the next time you sign in. An administrator can also grant access directly.

Can I keep my rates private but still let a customer estimate against them?

Yes. Keep the model Private and add a customer's Google sign-in email under Shared with — they can price against it once they sign in with that email and have their own module access, but they never see the rate tables or edit the model.

Is the result a binding quotation?

No. It is a working estimate computed from the rate tables in the cost model you chose. It supports your commercial judgement — confirm final pricing with the cylinder maker before you commit to it.

Can I turn an estimate into an RFQ?

Yes. Save the estimate, then in the RFQ module start a new RFQ, choose Cylinders, and add the saved estimate as an item — only the specification is copied across, never your own costing. Suppliers each quote a price per cylinder, so the responses compare directly.

Packaging Label Cost Calculator

Cost self-adhesive label jobs from the label up — face stock, adhesive and liner, inks, plates, dies, conversion, finishing, packing and freight — and price the same job at several quantities at once.

How it works →

Woven Sack & FIBC Cost Calculator

Cost PP woven sacks, cement and valve bags and jumbo bags from the tape recipe up — the bag's weight is calculated from the fabric you specify rather than typed in, so extrusion, weaving, lamination, printing and conversion all price off the real thing.

How it works →

Laminated Tube Cost Calculator

Cost ABL and PBL laminated tubes and extruded tubes from the diameter out — the flat strip each tube is cut from, how many fit across your web, the shoulder and cap you fit, printing, finishing and the box it ships in.

Packaging Directory

A searchable directory of packaging suppliers. Filter by capability, material and market, and post inquiries free — suppliers manage their own listings, verified by GPN, and can publish one as a public web page anyone can open without a GPN account. Connect emails suppliers from your own mailbox, filling in each company's details from a template you write once.

RFQ (Request For Quotation)

Ask several suppliers to quote the same job, then compare what comes back side by side. Built from your own estimate, so every supplier prices the same specification on the same basis.
